Recollecting the past

About

It all began innocently when I stumbled upon a photograph of house claiming to be in Rockhampton. It was ethereal and bewitching, I couldn’t believe something so spectacular was in my home town. I’ve always loved history and the stories it offered and I was compelled to use the little amount of information I had to find this treasure. Weeks later I succeeded and sadly found it had been demolished along with so much more of our historic architecture. I felt compelled then to tell the story of these missing pieces of our history. You see words are not my thing though and then I realised I could bring them to life with my artistic ability and that is where The Evanescent by KEW emerged.

As an artist I want to ensure our history is captured so that future generations can remember its beauty and so its memory does not vanish. I use old photos and my creative licence to bring life again to our historical homes. I want to make the old interesting so our community becomes more interested in our past.

I studied Multimedia at university and have used this throughout my professional career but my true passion has always been painting, drawing and art history. I predominately use acrylic paints within my pieces to capture the mystery, and the beauty of our past.

I also love to capture the images that my mind creates, I call these my imaginative wanderings. They are pieces filled with colour and beauty and generally centre around flowers and nature.

Follow me on my journey, see my progress and I hope you find something that brings you joy.
